Basics
I. Reiki and the Foundation of Usui Reiki
What Is Reiki?
Reiki is a complementary energy practice originating in Japan. Practitioners rest their hands gently on or above a recipient's body with the aim of guiding energy and supporting relaxation. The Japanese term combines “rei”, understood as universal or present throughout the universe, and “ki”, life energy. For details, see What is Usui Reiki? A complete introduction 。
What is the difference between Reiki and Usui Reiki?
Reiki is the general term for the practice. Usui Reiki specifically refers to the system taught by Mikao Usui through the society he established in Tokyo in 1922, which is the origin of most Reiki traditions around the world today.
Who is the founder of Usui Reiki?
The founder was Mikao Usui (15 August 1865–9 March 1926), born in Taniai village, Yamagata district, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. According to his memorial inscription at Saihoji Temple in Tokyo, he realised the Reiki method after 21 days of practice on Mount Kurama in Kyoto, established his society in Tokyo in April 1922, and taught more than two thousand students. Is Reiki a Religion?
No. Reiki does not belong to any religion, and learning it requires no religious belief.
What are the Five Reiki Principles?
The Five Principles begin “just for today”: do not be angry, do not worry, be grateful, work diligently and be kind to others. Usui's memorial records his instruction to bring the palms together and recite them inwardly morning and evening.
How did Reiki spread from Japan to the West?
Usui's student Chujiro Hayashi, a former naval doctor, continued his teaching. Hawayo Takata, a Hawaii-born woman of Japanese descent, studied with Hayashi in the 1930s and became a Reiki teacher in 1938. She later taught in the United States, training 22 Reiki Masters before her death in 1980.
What Is the Difference Between Usui Reiki and Tibetan Reiki?

Is the 'energy field' of Reiki scientifically proven?
The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) in the United States states that there is currently no scientific evidence to support the existence of the energy field referred to in Reiki. We recommend viewing Reiki as an auxiliary method for relaxation and self-care, with an open and rational attitude.

II. Reiki Courses and Registration
How many levels are there in the Mikao Usui Reiki courses offered by Soul Love Center?
There are four levels: Level 1 (focused on the body), Level 2 (focused on the mind), Advanced Level (focused on spirituality), and Usui/Tibetan Reiki Master Level (teacher training). Introductory and Advanced Meditation and Insight Workshops are also available.
What is the cost of each level?
Level 1: HK$900; Level 2: HK$1,380; Advanced: HK$1,880; Usui/Tibetan Reiki Master: HK$8,888. The Meditation and Insight Workshops cost HK$480 for Introductory and HK$680 for Advanced. For a full comparison, see Our services and Comparison of fees and content for 4 levels 。
How long is each level of course?
Level 1 and Level 2 are held from 11:00 to 17:00, Level 3 is held from 11:00 to 17:30, Master Level is 4 days with an additional day for follow-up. The Meditation and Insight Workshop schedule can be checked by WhatsApp.
Can a beginner without any foundation enroll in Level 1?
Yes. The Usui Reiki Level 1 Workshop is specifically designed for beginners, with no religious background or special talent required. The course will introduce the history of Reiki, the energy system of the chakra, and include two attunements and hand positions. Do I have to start with Level 1?
Usui Reiki courses are conducted in a sequential manner: Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and Master Level. Each level is built upon the attunement and content of the previous level. If you have previously attended courses at other centers, please contact us via WhatsApp to arrange for a transition.
What are the enrollment requirements for Master Level?
Master Level is only open to participants who have completed the Usui Reiki High Level course. The center also encourages participants to have accumulated sufficient Reiki practice experience before taking the instructor course. Attunement
III. Attunement
What is attunement?
Attunement is a transmission ritual performed by a Reiki teacher for a student. In the Usui Reiki tradition, it is regarded as the key step in becoming a channel for Reiki. The Level 1 course includes two one-to-one attunements.
What Does Attunement Feel Like?
Experiences vary: some people describe warmth, tingling, tears or deep calm, while others notice nothing unusual. These are subjective experiences, and their intensity does not indicate how well someone has learnt. For details, see What is Reiki attunement like? 。
What happens in the 21 days after attunement?
Many Western Usui Reiki transmissions suggest that after attunement, one should practice self-Reiki for 21 days, usually believed to be related to the story of the Usui Reiki master Mikao Usui and his 21-day practice at Mount Kurama. This is a traditional suggestion and not a mandatory rule, and no fasting is required.
Is Attunement the Same as Japanese Reiju?
They are related but not identical. Reiju means “spiritual bestowal” and, according to researchers, was offered repeatedly to students in Usui's time. Western attunement is generally understood to have developed from Reiju, adding Reiki symbols and being conducted by level.
What should be prepared before attunement?
Prior to attunement, ensure you have sufficient rest the previous night, wear comfortable clothing, and bring drinking water. If you are pregnant, have chronic illness, or are undergoing treatment, please inform your teacher in advance and continue to follow the doctor's instructions.

IV. Certificates and Qualifications
Will you receive a certificate after completing the course?
All levels are certificate workshops. After completing the Master Level course, the center will issue relevant certificates and the IARP-recognized certificates of Master Level of Usui/Tibetan Reiki.
What is IARP?
IARP stands for the International Association of Reiki Professionals. Cathy Wong is an IARP-registered Reiki Master Teacher (IARP no. 62694574). Registered members can be found using the Reiki Locator on IARP's official website.
Can Master Level be connected to international qualifications?
According to the centre's information, students may apply for membership and complete the ICRT internationally certified Usui/Tibetan Reiki programme at their own expense as a pathway towards IARP internationally certified Master Teacher qualifications. Please ask the centre for details.
Can you perform Reiki healing on others after completing the course?
Level 1 already includes “full-body Reiki hand positions for others”. If you intend to practise Reiki professionally, completing higher levels and building practical experience are recommended.

V. Reiki Healing
What is Reiki Healing?
Reiki healing is a one-on-one healing session performed by the Reiki practitioner. You simply need to wear clothes and lie down or sit calmly. The practitioner places their hands lightly or above the body, helping you enter a relaxed state.
Can I book Reiki healing without taking a course?

How much does a Reiki healing session cost and how long does it take?

Is there scientific evidence for Reiki healing?
NCCIH states that Reiki has been studied for conditions such as pain, anxiety, and depression, but most studies have low quality and inconsistent results, so Reiki has not been clearly proven to be effective for any health purpose. Is Reiki healing safe?
NCCIH states that Reiki has not been found to have harmful effects. The main risk is using Reiki instead of required medical care, so Reiki cannot replace the diagnosis and treatment provided by registered doctors.
Can Reiki healing replace seeing a doctor?
No. Reiki is a complementary relaxation and self-care practice. For any health concern, consult a registered doctor first and continue following their treatment plan.
Can Reiki be used during pregnancy or for people with chronic diseases?
Before contacting any complementary therapies, please consult a healthcare professional and inform the practitioner of your health status.
Can Reiki help with insomnia, anxiety, or emotional issues?
Reiki can be an auxiliary method for relaxation and emotional care, but it cannot diagnose or treat conditions such as insomnia or anxiety. What is distance Reiki?
Distance Reiki refers to the transmission of Reiki energy not in the same location. The Soul Love Center's Usui Reiki Level 2 course will teach remote symbols and remote therapy.
Self Practice
Six. Self-practice
How long should one practice Reiki each day?
A suggested routine is 10–20 minutes of self-Reiki hand positions daily, with the Five Principles recited morning and evening. Students also remind readers, “When using Reiki, please make sure you keep practising.” For hand-position guidance, see 12 Reiki Hand Positions for Self-Healing 。
Can Reiki be used on infants, pets, and plants?
The initial course in Usui Reiki includes the use of Reiki on infants, children, animals, plants, and crystals. If infants or pets have health issues, please consult a doctor or a registered veterinarian. For more details, see the section. Reiki for Babies, Pets and Plants 。
Is it necessary to buy crystals or accessories to learn Reiki?
No. The core of Usui Reiki is attunement and the transmission of Reiki energy with both hands, and crystals, the seven-star array, etc., are only auxiliary tools; there is no scientific evidence to prove that crystals themselves have efficacy, as reviewed by peers. What is the I Ching?
The I Ching is known as the “foremost of the classics”. Yang and yin lines form eight trigrams, which are paired to create sixty-four hexagrams. Each hexagram has six lines, giving 384 lines in total, used to understand change and balance in all things.
How are the I Ching and Reiki connected?
The I Ching focuses on yin-yang change and dynamic balance, while Reiki focuses on the flow and balance of energy. Soul Love Center uses the I Ching as a self-awareness framework. The advanced course includes “Reiki Family Constellations: The I Ching Philosophy” and “the twelve meridians and their time-cycle theory”. Does Soul Love Center use the I Ching for divination?
The I Ching is mainly used in Soul Love Center's teachings for self-awareness, focusing on understanding emotions and life stages through the changes of yin and yang, rather than predicting the future.
Can I learn Reiki without knowing the I Ching?
Yes. Levels 1 and 2 require no knowledge of the I Ching. I Ching-related content is mainly explained in the advanced course.
How does “adversity giving way to prosperity” relate to the I Ching?
“Adversity giving way to prosperity” derives from the I Ching hexagrams Tai (11) and Pi (12). The Sequence of the Hexagrams commentary says, “Things cannot remain open forever, so Pi follows. Things cannot remain in standstill forever, so Tong Ren follows.” Favourable and adverse circumstances can transform into one another. What is the relationship between the Five Elements and the Chakra?
The Five Elements and the Chakra originate from different cultures, and their correspondences have various interpretations, with no single standard. 8. Integration of Body, Mind and Spirit, Meditation and Insight, and Family Constellations
What Does “Body, Mind and Spirit” Mean?
Body, mind and spirit refers to three aspects: the physical body, the mind—including emotions and thoughts—and spirituality. Soul Love Center designs its Usui Reiki courses accordingly: Level 1 focuses on the body, Level 2 on the mind and Advanced on spirituality. What is the difference between meditation, seated meditation, and Reiki?

What does the Meditation and Insight Workshop teach?
beginner level （HK$480）Includes basic meditation, breathing and awareness, initial insight practices, and daily life applications; advanced level （HK$680）Includes advanced insight, stable practice rhythm, emotional and physical awareness, and life integration. Recommended for those with initial foundation or related meditation experience.
What are family constellations?
Family Constellation (Family Constellations) is a experiential approach developed by German psychotherapist Bert Hellinger, used to explore the dynamics of relationships within the family system. What is the relationship between hypnosis and Reiki?
They are different approaches. Cathy Wong is also an NGH internationally recognised hypnotherapist. The advanced course topic “inner programming: rapid subconscious change” reflects her integration of work with the subconscious.

Can Reiki attract wealth?
There is no scientific evidence to show that Reiki can directly bring wealth, nor any method can guarantee financial results. What is a seven-star array?
A seven-star crystal array is generally composed of a central main crystal and six surrounding crystals arranged in a hexagram shape, commonly used as a symbolic tool for concentrating will, wishing, and meditation.
